iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max: Specs, Comparisons and Buying Guide for Oman

Choosing between iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max starts with size and battery life. Both share the A20 Pro chip and three 48MP rear cameras, including a Main camera with variable aperture, a first for any iPhone. The Pro offers a smaller, lighter body; the Pro Max provides a larger display and longer battery ratings. This Sharaf DG Oman guide explains the specifications, what the features mean in everyday use, how the models compare with earlier Pro generations, and what to consider before buying in Oman.

The comparisons use Apple's published specifications. Practical examples are suggested uses, not hands-on test results.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro if you prefer a smaller phone

The Pro is 38g lighter and 6.1mm narrower than the Pro Max. It is the option to consider if you often carry your phone in a pocket, prefer one-handed use, or want the full Pro feature set without the larger body.

You get the shared processor and rear camera system without committing to the larger form factor. How comfortable a phone feels remains personal, so dimensions are a useful reference rather than a guarantee.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if screen space matters more

The Pro Max gives you more screen space for reading, reviewing photos, watching videos and working across multiple apps. Its higher battery ratings may also matter if you spend extended periods away from a charger, a consideration for longer days out in Oman.

The trade-off is a larger, heavier phone to carry. The rear camera system is shared between both models, so Pro Max is not the choice to make solely for camera reasons.

Camera features explained

What does variable aperture change?

The Main camera can change the size of the opening that admits light. Its four physical aperture settings let you balance light gathering with depth of field, how much of a scene appears in focus.

On smaller screens, scroll across to see the full table.

ApertureWhat it prioritisesA situation to explore
f/1.48More lightIndoor scenes or gatherings with limited lighting
f/1.8A balance of light and depthGeneral everyday photography
f/2.8Greater depth of fieldSubjects at different distances in the frame
f/4.0The greatest depth among the four settingsScenes where foreground and background detail both matter, landscape and architecture photography in Oman

The camera can adjust automatically. Pro controls also allow you to change aperture, shutter speed and white balance manually. A narrower aperture admits less light, so it is not automatically the better setting. Focus, subject movement and lighting still influence the result.

Which rear camera should you use?

On smaller screens, scroll across to see the full table.

CameraPublished specificationPractical starting point
Main48MP, 24mm, variable apertureEveryday scenes, people and mixed lighting
Ultra Wide48MP, 13mm, f/2.2Wider scenes, rooms, landscapes and close macro subjects
Telephoto48MP, 100mm, f/2.8Tighter framing from a distance, useful for Oman's wildlife, coastal scenery and architecture

Try Ultra Wide when you want to fit more of a scene into the frame. For a distant subject, begin with the telephoto options rather than pushing digital zoom to its maximum of 40x.

Is 8x optical-quality zoom the same as an 8x optical lens?

No. Apple lists a 48MP telephoto camera at 100mm, equivalent to 4x, and a 200mm 8x optical-quality option that produces 12MP images. Digital zoom extends the range to 40x. The 8x figure is not a dedicated 8x optical lens, and the 40x digital setting should not be confused with the optical-quality zoom description.

What can you do with the front camera?

The 18MP Center Stage camera supports framing for photos and video calls. Dual Capture lets you record with the front and rear cameras simultaneously. Photographic Styles 3 provides texture and grain adjustments for more creative results.

When is ProRAW useful?

ProRAW is worth considering when you intend to edit exposure, colour and white balance carefully afterwards. It retains more information for editing but produces larger files than standard formats. For quick sharing, standard capture is more convenient.

Video features for everyday clips and creative work

The published recording options include 4K Dolby Vision up to 120fps on the Main camera, Cinematic mode up to 4K Dolby Vision at 60fps, and ProRes up to 4K at 120fps with external recording support.

Family videos and social clips

Start with how you plan to use the footage. A short video shared with family has different requirements from a project you intend to crop, colour-grade or slow down significantly.

You do not need the highest frame rate or a professional recording format for every clip. Choose settings that work with your available storage, editing tools and sharing habits.

Movement and slow-motion edits

Higher-frame-rate recording gives you more frames to work with when slowing footage in an editor, useful for action shots during Oman's outdoor activities, sporting events and fast-paced scenes. More frames do not automatically produce a better result; lighting, shutter speed and stability still matter.

Content creation and production

ProRes, Apple Log 2 and ProRes RAW are relevant when your recording and editing workflow supports them. Before planning a professional shoot, verify the app, external storage type, cable and editing software all meet the recording requirements.

A20 Pro performance: What could it mean for you?

Apple reports up to 40% faster graphics performance than A19 Pro, built on a 2-nanometer process, its most power-efficient architecture yet. The revised cooling system has three times the vapor-chamber surface area of the previous generation. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

Gaming and demanding tasks

Sustained performance concerns how a device handles a workload over time, relevant to longer gaming sessions, repeated editing tasks and demanding on-device processing. The expanded vapor chamber is particularly relevant for heavy use in Oman's warm ambient temperatures, especially during summer months.

Work and study

For messaging, documents and browsing, screen size and storage may be more meaningful choices than a benchmark percentage. Someone reviewing notes or spreadsheets may prefer the Pro Max's larger display. Someone moving between meetings in Muscat may prioritise the Pro's lighter, narrower body.

Apple Intelligence and language support

Apple lists Apple Intelligence and Siri AI among the features. Availability depends on the specific feature, supported language and region. Arabic-language support for Apple Intelligence features is expanding but not uniform across all functions, check requirements for any specific task you intend to perform in Arabic.

Battery life: Understanding the ratings

Does 45 hours of video playback mean almost two days of normal use?

No. Video playback and mixed typical use are different tests. Apple's typical-use rating combines passive and active use across messaging, music, browsing, navigation and gaming. For the Pro Max, that figure is up to 30 hours, not 45. Use the ratings to compare models under the stated tests, not as a promise of a specific number of working days between charges.

Will the improvement match my current phone?

Published comparisons do not account for the condition of your existing device. If battery life is your main concern, consider current battery health separately from new camera or processor capabilities. An ageing battery and a missing feature are different reasons to make a change.

Charging: What you need to know

A compatible USB-C adapter can charge the phone. You do not need to replace it simply because a faster option exists. Apple supports charging with standards-compliant USB-C equipment.

What is needed for the advertised fast charge?

Apple specifies up to 50% charge in around 15 minutes with a compatible 60W-capable or higher AVS adapter and a suitable USB-C cable, requiring USB PD 3.1 or better with Adjustable Voltage Supply. Charging time varies with settings, usage during charging and ambient temperature.

Wired or wireless charging?

Both models support MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25W. Wired charging is useful when you want fast-charge capability. Wireless charging suits a desk or bedside routine. Check the full combination of adapter, charger and cable rather than relying on a single wattage figure printed on one accessory.

Should you upgrade from iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max?

Variable aperture is the clearest camera distinction in this generation. Three 48MP rear cameras and the 18MP Center Stage front camera are already present on the iPhone 17 Pro. Consider whether the added camera control and higher battery ratings address something you specifically want to improve. If those changes do not matter to you, a working iPhone 17 Pro remains a reasonable choice.

Which storage capacity should you choose?

Start with your current usage

On your current iPhone, open Settings, then General, then iPhone Storage. Review the total used and which apps or media take the most space. Before choosing, consider whether you:

  • Keep original videos after editing.
  • Download films, music or large games for offline access.
  • Regularly move files to a computer or external drive.
  • Use iCloud or another cloud service for your photo library.
  • Expect your storage needs to grow over the next two or three years.
CapacityConsider it when
256GBYour usage sits comfortably below this level and you manage downloads and offline content regularly
512GBYou want more room for a growing media library and regular offline content without managing space frequently
1TBYou keep large local collections or regularly work with substantial video files on the device
2TBKeeping an extensive library of files on the phone is a deliberate part of your workflow

These are selection guidelines, not storage guarantees. Available space is less than the stated capacity. With iCloud Photos and storage optimisation, full-resolution originals can remain in iCloud while smaller versions are kept locally.

Using iPhone 18 Pro with AirPods and Apple Watch

Your iPhone, earphones and watch can cover different parts of the same daily routine. Choose each device around what you do regularly rather than acquiring every available accessory.

AirPods for listening, calls and camera control

Pair iPhone 18 Pro with AirPods for wireless listening and hands-free calls. Current AirPods models support Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode and Voice Isolation. AirPods can also act as a camera remote for photos and recordings when paired with a compatible iPhone.

Check the specific model you are considering. Charging case options and control features vary between AirPods versions.

Apple Watch for your daily routine

Consider Apple Watch Series 11 or Apple Watch SE 3 if you want activity and workout tracking alongside iPhone 18 Pro. Start with activities you already do, walking, running or cycling, then review your routine through the connected Apple Health and Fitness apps.

Compare case sizes and band measurements, especially if you intend to wear it throughout the day or while sleeping. Fit matters alongside the feature list.

You do not need to replace every device at once. Check the compatibility of what you already own and add devices around a specific need. Also explore the full wearables range at Sharaf DG Oman.

Oman setup and frequently asked questions

Does iPhone 18 Pro support a physical SIM card in Oman?

Yes. The Oman version of both iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max supports a physical SIM card alongside eSIM. You can continue using your existing Omantel or Ooredoo SIM without any conversion needed. Both Oman mobile operators support eSIM if you choose to go fully digital.

Can I keep two phone numbers active?

Yes. The iPhone 18 Pro supports a physical SIM and an eSIM simultaneously, allowing two active numbers on the same device, useful for separating personal and work lines, or using a local Oman SIM alongside a travel eSIM.

Is the Pro Max camera better than the Pro camera?

Both models share the same published Main, Ultra Wide and Telephoto camera specifications, including the variable aperture Main lens. The front camera is 18MP Center Stage on both models. Choose between Pro and Pro Max primarily around screen size, weight and battery ratings rather than rear camera capability.

What is the difference between iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max?

Display size (6.3 vs 6.9 inches), weight (211g vs 249g), and battery ratings (36h vs 45h video playback; 24h vs 30h typical use). Both share the A20 Pro chip, triple 48MP rear camera system, 18MP front camera, Aluminum unibody with Ceramic Shield 2, and identical color options.

What colors are available for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max?

Both models come in the same four finishes: Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy. Burgundy is the new color introduced with this generation.

Can I use my existing USB-C charger?

Yes. Any standards-compliant USB-C adapter can charge iPhone 18 Pro. For the advertised fast charge of 50% in around 15 minutes, Apple specifies a 60W-capable or higher AVS adapter supporting USB PD 3.1. A cable capable of handling the required power level is also needed alongside the adapter.

Can I move my Android photos and WhatsApp messages to iPhone 18 Pro?

Apple's Move to iOS process supports transferring contacts, photos, videos and WhatsApp messages and media. Plan the transfer during initial setup and follow the current instructions. Do not assume every app and its data transfers automatically. Keep your old phone and a backup until you have verified all transferred content.

Will my existing iPhone case fit?

Choose a case explicitly listed for iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max by model. A similar screen size does not establish compatibility with the specific body dimensions, camera surround or button placement of this generation.

What comes in the box?

Apple includes the iPhone and a USB-C charging cable. A power adapter is not included in the box.

Can I buy iPhone 18 Pro in installments at Sharaf DG Oman?

Yes. Tabby is available at Sharaf DG Oman checkout, allowing you to split the cost into equal interest-free monthly payments. Available online at oman.sharafdg.com and in all Sharaf DG stores in Muscat.

What is the Guaranteed Buyback program?

An optional add-on purchased at the time of buying your iPhone. It guarantees up to 75% of your original purchase price back when you trade in the device for a newer model within your chosen 1-, 2- or 3-year plan period. The buyback percentage is fixed on the day of purchase and does not change based on second-hand market conditions.

When can I pre-order and when does iPhone 18 Pro go on sale?

Pre-orders open on Saturday, September 12 at 4:00 PM local time at oman.sharafdg.com. Both models go on sale in stores and online from Friday, September 18 at 4:00 PM. Store opening times may apply for in-store purchases.

Which model should I choose?

Start with the size you want to carry. Consider iPhone 18 Pro for a smaller, lighter phone. Consider iPhone 18 Pro Max when the larger display and higher battery ratings matter enough to accept the additional size and weight. Choose your storage capacity based on your actual current usage rather than the maximum available. Also explore the iPhone Duo if you want Apple's first folding iPhone.
